Krautinger Week

The Krautinger Week from 5th - 11th October is all about  Krautinger Schnapps - a well-loved cure-all in the Wildschönau.

You can convince yourself of the healing properties of the Wildschönau's own schnapps during the Krautinger Week from 5th - 11th October. The original schnapps has helped the region to the coveted title 'Genuss Region'. 'Genuss' regions excel in producing a particular organic product - in our case the Wildschönau white beet. The title 'Genuss Region' stands for high quality and a cooperation between regional agriculture and tourism.

Sunday 5th October
The Festival begins with a harvest mass and procession.
The Z'Bach Farmer's Museum turns into a small market place.  The village fete atmosphere is created by traditional folk and brass music with the Hochtalern and the Katlmusig groups. And there are culinary delights, a craft fare and a farmer's market besides. The village bands and the traditional Sturmlöda (Storm Troopers) are present and correct.

During the week you have the opportunity to visit one of the 15 licenced farms to watch the Krautinger distillery process. Numerous hotels present imaginative dishes involving the famous Beet. Further highlights include guided walks, concerts and other supporting events.

Saurday 11th October
The week is crowned by a sumptuous ball with prominent guests and celebrity jury members, where the year's finest Krautinger is chosen from among the 15 candidates. Musical accompaniment is by the 'Ebbser Kaiserklang'.

And it's very likely that a glass or two will be raised to her Majesty Empress Maria Theresia by whose decree in the eighteenth century the distiller's rights were bestowed.
