The Holzalm - Cheese Alm

The Holz Alm aka Käse Alm lies in the Markbachjoch hiking area.

The route to the Cheese Alm (1449m) is an easy walk that you can easily do with children. Start at the top of the lift and walk for approx 20 minutes to the Alm house. The Cheese Alm is home to over 300 head of cattle in the summer from 21 local farms, housed in the most modern cow stall in Tirol and is the second largest summer grazing area pasture in the Wildschönau. From mid May to mid October you can enjoy the fantastic views of the Hohe Salve, Wilder Kaiser and the Kitzbühel Alps while partaking of a cold drink, fresh dairy products or a hearty cheese or bacon platter.

The award winning dairy products from the Cheese Alm can be bought directly from the Alm or from the Kaskeller in Niederau on Friday afternoons 4 - 6pm and Saturday mornings 9 - 12.

From the Cheese Alm you can walk to the Feldalphorn or Schweigberghorn Mountains via the little wooden Horler Stiege Chapel or over the halsgatterl to the Rosskopf.
