Krautinger is not only available in liquid form.
The beet or turnip used for the schnapps is also used in many dishes in autumn. Turnip soup is a favourite as is turnip stew with smoked ham or a white beet strudel. Eaten raw the vegetable has a spicy taste comparable with radish.
Turnips can be bought straight from the farm.
Many local restaurants take part in the Krautinger specialty week at the beginning of October and provide creative dishes featuring this special root vegetable.
