A short description of the Wildschönau.
The Wildschönau is a growing holiday region set in extremely beautiful surroundings where the local people are extraordinarily friendly. It is this hospitable mentality coupled with the breathtaking scenery that has ensured the Wildschönau's evolvement one of Tirol's best loved holiday destinations.
A mixture of tourism, agriculture and small businesses indicates a natural growth. There are 7500 guest beds to a population of approx. 4000 - a healthy equation. The beds are in houses of all categories ranging from comfortable pensions to 4**** hotels.
As skiing became a family sport, the mountain sides of the Wildschönau gradually developed into ski slopes. From that time on, nothing stood in the way of Wildschönau's tranformation to one of the most popular and well known ski resorts in the region. Guests love the friendliness of the people here and immediately feel at home.
There are 26 ski lifts in the area, 70 km of top quality pistes and 7500 beds in all categories and price ranges. The price:service ratio is particularly fair and the hospitality of the locals and the numerous facilities like the Race 'n' Boarder Arena, winter walking paths, cross country tracks, nordic snow walking, toboggan runs and much more, add up to a particularly attractive winter holiday destination.
The Wildschönau consists of 4 villages, Niederau, Oberau, Thierbach and Auffach and is perfect for relaxed skiing on sunny but mostly north facing slopes with the gorgeous backdrop of the Kitzbühel Alps. The other activities on offer apart from skiing include snowboarding, cross country on over 50km of well prepared tracks, paragliding, winter walking, snow shoe walking, floodlit tobogganing and sleigh rides.
In the spring, in summer and in autumn a whole world of hiking and walking possibilities opens up in the splendid mountain ranges in and around the Wildschönau. There is something for everyone ranging from simple walks along the valley to adventurous attempts on the higher peaks...
Hiking is made easy by the use of the two lifts in operation, transporting you comfortably to the heights and facilitating many walks in the alpine scenery.
Our popular Wildschönau Card includes free guided walks, free entrance to the museums, free use of the open air swimming pool complex and the cable cars, tennis and children's programme.
