Markbachjoch

Take a trip on the gondola to the Markbachjoch and enjoy the fantastic views from 1500m sea level.

Kids will love the animals and the playground and watching the paragliders taking off and the adults will enjoy the delicious local dishes and the wonderful views enjoyed best from a deckchair in the sun! YOu can take an easy walk along the tops to the Käsealm alpine dairy and the Horler Stiege Chapel. If you want to go even higher you can come back over the Rosskopf Peak.

There are plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments on this lovely mountain and if you're in luck there might be a musical event going on which is often the case.

The Markbachjoch is also the favourite take off point for the local paragliding school and you can watch the pupils and tandem fliers making their first flights.

The simplest route to the Markbachjoch is via the gondola but you can also reach it by road from the Oberau Sonnberg and Horler Stiege Chapel and then approx 1 hours walk.

Suggested walks and hikes on the Markbachjoch 

Käsealm - Horler Stiege
An easy walk on route nr. 2 to the Käsealm. Traditional dairy produce can be sampled. The route takes you further on to the Horler Stiege Chapel (starting point for the Feldalphorm walk) and then back along the same path to the gondola station. Approx. 2 hrs. 

Rosskopf
At the fork with route nr. 1 to the Lanerköpfl, Halsgatterl and further on to the Rosskopf at 1731m for fantastic views over the Wildschönau and Inn Valleys. The descent takes you to the Rosskopf Hut and then on to Oberau or back down to the Horler Stiege Chapel and back to the gondola via the Käsealm. Approx. 2 - 3 hrs.
