The Kundl Gorge
The renovation of the popular Kundl Gorge is coming on in leaps and bounds...
At the moment the popular tourist attraction the Kundl Gorge is undergoing renovation and has been closed for some time. The work is advancing rapidly and we expect the Gorge to be reopening in the spring 2009.
The Kundl Gorge is one of the most beautiful natural gorges in Austria and connects the Wildschönau Valley with the town of Kundl in the Inn Valley. A popular walk begins in Mühltal in the Wildschönau and leads through the winter Gorge hung with glittering icicles to Kundl. The Klamm is always worth a visit whether for a gentle walk in the summer months or a winter hike in the colder season.
The Legend of the Wildschönau
"The Wildschönau was once a lake wherein dwelled a fearful dragon that terrified the population of the Valley. A courageous peasant tricked the dragon and killed it. In its death throes the dragon bit through the cliffs of the Wildschönau through to Kundl, the lake emptied out through the gap into the river Inn. This was how the Wildschönau and the Kundl Gorge came into being."
