Herb gathering has a century old tradition in the Wildschönau. Many farmer's gardens have been turned into specific herb gardens, where herbal remedies are grown.
The farm garden was always a vital part of farm life, these days home grown vegetables and herbs are not always the norm, but some people still cultivate their own herbs.
Christine Thaler from the Holzalm Farm in Oberau has a created a wonderful herb garden at an altitude of 1100 metres with over 80 specimens of herb, to garnish every dish and heal practically every ailment. Creams, drops and tinctures are made on the farm and can of course be purchased there. Another of Christl's talents is her painting. Her works are displayed in her shop for all to see.
