Z'Bach Mountain Farmer's Museum
A living museum
The farmhouse is over 200 years old and was a working farm up until 1995 the Wildschönau Council bought it and turned it into a fascinating museum.
This is a particularly fascinating museum. It is a living museum. The house was inhabited and the farm worked until 1992. Only when the then owner decided to build a new farmhouse across the road did this centuries-old house stand empty. The local council decided to buy it and turn it into a museum.
The exhibits were donated from all over the Wildschönau valley. Although these exhibits hang unused here, their counterparts are still in use today. e.g. The wooden form for washing butter, the large pans still used to feed the family, the combs for picking berries, the scythes, the kitchen stove, the tiled stove, the copper vats, the tools for working the wood and many, many more. The museum not only tells of the past, it tells also of the present.
The former stall and barn areas are in constant use. Discussion groups and forums, concerts, cultural activities and much more are held here.
We hope you enjoy your visit and that you will leave with the feeling that you have a better insight into the life of the Wildschönau mountain farmer past and present and hopefully future!
