The Wildschönau Almabtrieb or cattle drive is one of the few remaining authentic festivals of it's kind in Tirol.
It takes place from 10.00 am in Auffach
Grandiose cattle drive through Auffach. Farmers market, craft fair, Tirolean specialties and farm produce on sale. The Schatzberg lift car park in Auffach is the venue. The festival is opened by the Auffach Brass Band and afterwards the group "Wildschönau 6" provides the music and entertainment.
Music groups will be playing at the Gasthof Weissbacher, Hotel Platzl and Hotel Auffacherhof. The first cows arrive at around 12 pm.
After the long summer with their animals, the cowherds come together once more on the eve of the Almabtrieb the so-called Gru- Nacht after milking and pack up for the long cattle drive home. The cows' horns are decorated and their bells polished for the vivid festival where they are admired by thousands of spectators.
The fun starts at 10 am with a craft fare and farmer's market on the large car park of the Schatzberg lift in Auffach.
The young farmers, the farmer's market and local farmer's wives offer fresh and delicious local specialities.
Craftsmen demonstrate ancient skills and there is face painting for the kids. The Grutt'n Bar and Marius Restaurant provide heartier food.
The Auffach Brass Band officially opens the festival and live music groups provide entertainment throughout the day.
The first cows arrive around 12 pm.
