The rough peaks of the Kaiser mountain range rise among the gentle grass mountains of the Kitzbühel Alps in the south and the Chiemgau Alps in the north 2400 m into the sky. Already in the beginning of the 19th century mountaineers from all over the world came here to prove themselves in the rough limestone and dolomite rock formations of the Wilder Kaiser mountain on the most difficult routes at that time. With tours like “Des Kaisers neue Kleider” (level of difficulty 10+ or 8b+, only 4 attempts since 1994) the Wilder Kaiser mountain has been attracting climbing enthusiasts now and then alike.
Point of departure: Angath, 510m. Itinerary:
Start in Angath and cycle along the Inn cycling path to Langkampfen and on the main road to Kufsten. Go right at the T-crossing and take the first exit of the roundabout leading towards Kiefersfelden.. Now go on via the former border to Germany to Kiefersfelden and Oberaudorf. In Niederndorf near Kufstein you get back on Austrian terrain again. Now continue via Sebi to Walchsee where the lake invites you to stop by and have a break. Then the tour goes on via Weidach to Kaltenbach, a district of Kössen, and on along the rather quiet road to Erpfendorf and on to St. Johann in Tirol. Right at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser the route leads on to Going, past the famous hotel Stanglwirt, and via Ellmau, Scheffau, Söll, and Bruckhäusl back to your point of departure in Angath.
