Geographically it is part of Oberau but Mühltal is the gateway to the beautiful Kundl Gorge.
'Mühltal' the name comes from the German name for mill after the old mill that stood there. The hamlet is geographically a part of Oberau.
The statue on the bridge over the Wildschönau River depicts St John of Nepomuk, the patron saint of bridges.
The Bummelbahn and the Bummelzug trains both stop here, one for trips to the end of the valley Schönangeralm in Auffach and Thierbach, the other to the start of the Kundl Gorge
Mühltal is the start of the Kundl Gorge walk. There are plenty of opportunities for rest and refreshment in the area. The Mühltal village walk and the riverside walk to Auffach are very popular. Tours to Auffach or Thierbach can start here.
