the life of the tirolean mountain farmer

Wildschönau Farming Museum

The exhibits in the Z’Bach Farming Museum tell the tale of the often arduous life of mountain farmers in the Wildschönau.

The original farmhouse is over 200 years old and was donated to the Museum Society in 1997.

A visit to the Z’Bach Museum is a journey back in time. Over 1200 exhibits are on display recounting the region’s agricultural history. Some of the tools are still in use today, for example the wooden forms for washing butter or the „comb“ for gathering berries.

The museum is made up of different rooms and outhouses

  • Farmer’s kitchen with the original stove
  • The „living room“ with it’s valuable tiled oven, often the only scource of heat.
  • The weapon room, the smoking room or the handworker's shed.
  • The barn, where the hay was originally stored has been turned into an events venue for parties, exhibitions and the craft fair.
  • The lovely chapel and the original bread baking oven are outside the house.

Wood carvers, wood turners, felt slipper or glove makers, flax spinners and basket makers, beekeepers, and other craftsmen show their works at the weekly craft fare which takes place every Thursday afternoon from May to mid October. Farm produce is sold in the museum shop and the fragrant „Schmalznudel“ a type of doughnut are cooked in the museum’s kitchen.

The Z’Bach Events Centre

The Z'Bach Events Centre is a popular venue for concerts, exhibitions, seminars and wedding parties.
The biggest events in the Z’Bach Museum are the weekly craft fair in summer, the Harvest Festival in October and the annual Christmas Market in Advent.
