Käse Alm

The Brixental Holzalm on the Markbachjoch in Niederau. Guided cheese tour on request.

Cheese tour on the Holz Alm:
Tuesday and Thursday 12.30 om
Approx 90 minutes.

The easy path takes you from the Markbachjoch to the Holz Alm in about 40 minutes. The Alm is the second largest in the area  at 1400 metres above sea level. Walkers can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Hohe Salve and the Wilder Kaiser mountain range from the terrace of the hut from May to mid October. Enjoy fresh alpine dairy products.

The alm belongs to 18 local farmers whose cows spend the summer months. A total of 150 cows are kept in the most modern cow barn the Tirol.

The cheeses can also be bought in the Kaskeller in Niederau every Friday from 3 - 6 pm and every Saturday from 9 am - 12 pm.

Walks from the Käse Alm include the Feldalphorn, the Schweigberghorn, a short walk to the Horler Stiege or via the Halsgatterl to the Rosskopf.
