the first of the wildschönau's villages

Niederau Wildschönau

The first village you come to in the Wildschönau is Niederau, immediately recognisable by the pointed steeple of its church with the Markbachjoch mountain directly behind it. In winter, skiers flock here. In summer, the mountain is a popular vantage point, perfect for hiking. Niederau is just 10 km away from the A12 Inn Valley motorway.

Summer tips

The Markbachjoch mountain is a popular starting point for beautiful hikes of all levels in summer. The views are magnificent. Popular hiking routes are the Kasalm/Holzalm, the Norderbergalm, the Rosskopf or a somewhat longer tour to the Feldalphorn.
In summer, the sky above Niederau is littered with colourful paragliders and hang-glider parachutes. You can reach the main village of Oberau via the leisurely Franziskusweg walking path.

Winter tips

The Markbachjoch mountain is the ski centre in Niederau. Easy beginner slopes and more challenging, longer slopes make the Markbachjoch a small but fine ski area. Cross-country skiing is possible as are leisurely snowshoe hikes. The beginners' slopes are right in the village centre. A thrilling toboggan run starts from the top of the Lanerköpfl chair lift.
