Legend has it that in ancient times the Wildschönau was a huge lake where a terrible dragon lived and terrorised the local people. A peasant tricked the dragon and slew it. In its death throes the creature bit through the cliffs, the water ran into the Inn and emptied the lake. And so the Wildschönau and the Kundl Gorge were formed. Today the easy path leads past steep cliffs and white water to small town of Kundl.
The walk through the gorge can be started in the Wildschönau or in Kundl. The Bummelzug take you comfortably from Mühltal/Wildschönau to the start of the gorge.
The Gorge is closed (from 15.11. - 01.04.2022) in the winter.
Cycling in the gorge is forbidden!
