There’s a breath of fresh air here!
The Wirbelwindweg trail runs above Oberau and Niederau through a shady forest, making it ideal for the summer months.
It starts at the Tennladen practice lift in Niederau, opposite the Hotel Harfenwirt.
Spread over a distance of four kilometres are several activity stations that encourage children to play amongst the forest edge, meadows and streams. Along the route there are six nature play points with play ideas that can be accessed via QR codes. Nature is simply the best playground. There is an elevation gain of around 200 metres to tackle, and every 20 minutes (approx. 1 km) you reach the new rest areas (from Whitsun 2026). This keeps the young hikers motivated, whilst the adults can relax and enjoy the view of the high valley and the Tyrolean mountains.
At the end of the trail, the z'Bach Mountain Farm Museum awaits, and is well worth a visit. Anyone looking to cool off afterwards can follow on with a visit to the Wildschönau outdoor swimming pool (a further 5-minute walk).
And for those who don’t have much time, there are a few options to branch off downwards earlier. The trail is not suitable for pushchairs.
