Juwel Tour Wildschönau Alpbachtal

Mega round with lift assistance

Length 40.6 km
Duration 7:00 h
Altitude
890 hm
2440 hm
Maximum riding enjoyment with comparatively minimal effort: 900 meters of elevation gain for over 2400 meters of downhill fun!
The start is in Niederau. First, take your bike on the Markbachjochbahn cable car and enjoy the leisurely 600 meter climb in the gondola. At the mountain station, turn right towards Holzalm. Please note: bikes are not allowed in the forest. In summer, the path to Holzalm is very busy. Pedestrians have right of way – please push your bike.
From Holzalm, continue to Horlerstiegl (an old chapel) and from here, ride 6 km downhill on Sonnberg to Auffach (don't miss the turn-off to the left/Auffach!). A few meters further on is the Schatzbergbahn cable car, which saves you from sweating your way up 900 m.
At the mountain station, the Schatzbergalm, you need to pay attention again: the road (MTB Route 351, signposted) leads downhill, and you turn left three times. The turn-off to Alpbach (climb, short push, approx. 300 m) also goes to the left – slow down here and look carefully, as there are no signs.
From the forest road on the Alpbach side, there is another 6.5 km and over 700 m descent, past the Zotta farm, to the village of Alpbach. In the center of Alpbach, at a sharp bend, continue straight ahead at the Hotel Post with the next stop being Bischofer Alm. Now there are a few meters of elevation gain on the agenda.
But you can enjoy the view again at the latest at the Bischoferjoch bench, before continuing on to the relatively flat, shady forest section to the Brixlegger Holzalm.

The return to the Wildschönau side is via the Holzalm Trail, which is short but steep and requires you to push your bike. After that, you can get back on your saddle and cycle to Thierbach and back to the starting point with a short, final climb.

Places to stop for refreshments: Holzalm/Käsealm Markbachjoch, Schatzbergalm, Brixlegger Holzalm, traditional inn Sollererwirt or Gasthof Gradlspitz in Thierbach, as well as other inns and cafés in Mühltal, Oberau, and Niederau.
