The tour starts at the Schatzbergbahn cable car in Auffach. First, take the road to Thierbach, which is about 5 km uphill. Once you reach the picturesque village of Thierbach, turn left after the elementary school onto the Schatzberg.
Follow the forest trail for about 6 km uphill through the woods and alpine pastures to the Schatzberg mountain station.
This is the perfect tour for those who like to combine active pursuits with enjoyable cycling. There are several places to stop for refreshments on the Schatzberg, such as the Schatzbergalm or, a little further up, the Gipföhit.
On clear days, the view from the ridge around the Hahnkopf stretches from the Karwendel to the Hohe Tauern and the Wilder Kaiser. Fantastic – just enjoy!
The descent takes you to the reservoir, past the Gern Alm and down a new section to the Grasing Alm.
A little caution is advised in places, as the forest road over the Talsalm and into the Aschbach Valley is somewhat steeper and more gravelly in places.
But happiness hormones are guaranteed nonetheless.
Because you cycle an incredible 1000 meters of elevation and over 9 km down into the valley back to Auffach.
The route is of course also possible in the opposite direction.
