The fourth village in the Wildschönau, Auffach, is 875 m above sea level and is otherwise known as the Schatzberg village. Auffach is the portal to the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau!
The name Auffach originated from the timber industry. Years ago the village was a timber rafting centre. In winter the Schatzberg is a busy ski village and the centre of the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau resort. The new Schatzberg cable car transports skiers to the top in just a few minutes. Schönanger Alm lies 5 km beyond the village at the very end of the valley and is a beautiful unspoiled walking region of rich pastures. The mountains form the natural border to the neighbouring regions.
In summer the Schatzberg village is the ideal start for lovely walks.
The Schönanger Alm at the end of the valley is the starting point for hikes to the higher peaks, for example to the Breitegg, Sonnjoch or the highest mountain, the Grosser Beil (2309 m)
On the Schönanger Alm don’t miss the show dairy where prize winning cheeses are produced. The Auffach Wood Museum shows you everything you need to know on the subject of wood carving.
Auffach is a busy ski village in winter. The Schatzberg cable car starts from the village centre into the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau. 109 km of pistes and 45 lifts make for great skiing. The home run ends back in Auffach.
The 5 km long toboggan run starts from the middle station.
Cross country skiing on the Auffach tracks or a romantic sleigh ride are pleasant alternatives to skiing.
