“Saltbrennt” is when schnapps is distilled by hand in the Tyrolean Oberland from selected apples, pears, and plums, particularly suitable for preventing stomach aches and regular arguments. “Saltbrennt” is also when blues is distilled by hand in the Tyrolean Oberland from selected melodies, chords, and rhythms, particularly suitable for preventing trumpet trills and bowing to the roots of blues. Based on the roots of honest, true blues, driven by funk and with a touch of barbershop quintet, “Saltbrennt” has found a sound that they describe as self-distilled groove blues according to a traditional recipe. The instruments used can be recognized in different roles. For example, the harmonica provides musical foundations that are rather unusual for its nature, the bass reveals soloistic functions, and the tuba blows the basic groove. Last but not least, the polyphonic vocals support the ideal of self-combustion, namely to be earthy, honest, and unvarnished, a male choir with instruments, so to speak. “Saltbrennt” ranks somewhere between living room blues and stadium rock, venturing into partly funky, partly traditional spheres, while always trying to remain true to their roots and those of the blues.
