The Wildschönau Valley Autumn event series once again invites you to enjoy special experiences in the autumnal mountain landscape from September 11th to October 18th, 2026.
As the landscape is cloaked in warm shades of gold and red and the crisp autumn air offers sweeping views, the focus shifts to what makes this season so special: living traditions, regional cuisine, and memorable encounters.
In addition to time-honored traditions, visitors can also look forward to new ideas and fresh touches that showcase the enjoyable, authentic, and diverse side of autumn in the Wildschönau.
Autumn Cuisine
Fall delights with its unique culinary diversity. The Culinary dragon tracks event showcases seasonal specialties that let you savor the flavors of fall. From delicate turnip dishes to hearty meat classics and creative vegan options—there’s something for everyone who loves regional cuisine.

- The “Evening of Delights” at the Landhotel Tirolerhof kicks off the 2026 Wildschönau Valley Autumn. Regional specialties, live music, and Lisi’s freshly made Brodakrapfen will make for an atmospheric evening on October 11th.
- The Pleasure Promenade at Drachental Family Park on September 12th will create a delightful atmosphere with regional delicacies, local producers, and relaxing music by Foreign Affair.
- A yearly highlight of the program is the "Almkirchtag" at the Schönangeralm on September 13th. The highlight is Holy Mass at the idyllically situated Swiss stone pine chapel, followed by a varied program and live music at the Schönangeralm.
- The Kultureck in Oberau invites you to the humorous comedy “Two like Bonnie & Clyde” on September 18th - an entertaining story about two would-be female crooks dreaming of the big heist.
- A special highlight of the Valley Autumn season is the traditional cattle drive in Auffach on September 19th, which attracts numerous guests from near and far every year. Festively decorated cows are led down from the alpine pastures into the valley, accompanied by music and regional specialties.
- A yearly highlight is the brass band gathering on Schatzberg, which takes place on September 20th. The day begins with a mountain mass, followed by various brass bands on Schatzberg creating a special atmosphere with traditional music.
- On September 24th and 25th, everything at Restaurant Tennladen and Hotel Haflingerhof will be all about jazz. Musicians from various countries will create special concert moments with their atmospheric sounds.
- Which cheese tastes best? At the Alpine Brunch with Cheese Festival at the Schönangeralm on September 27th, you’ll have the opportunity to taste different types of cheese and buy them right on the spot. Live music will set the perfect mood.
- A sporting highlight is the High Trail Trophy on October 2nd and 3rd - a hiking and trail running event along the High Trail Wildschönau. Four different distances are available, with the fastest time counting at the end.
- “Let’s head to the Museum harvest festival” is the motto on October 4th at the Mountain Farming Museum in z’Bach. The focus is on crafts, tradition, and regional specialties. A varied program ensures a lively autumn festival, the highlight of which is the award ceremony for the “Krautinger of the Year.”
- At the market day at the Mountain Farm Museum on October 8th, local producers will showcase their regional specialties and handmade products. The program is rounded out by live music, ensuring a cozy autumn afternoon.
- The Open Distillery Day on October 9th at the Steinerhof offers a fascinating insight into the art of schnapps distilling. In addition to interesting facts about the traditional production of Wildschönauer Krautinger, you can look forward to live music and hourly guided tours of the distillery.
- The fun continues on October 10th with the Pleasure Promenade at the Drachental Family Park, featuring laid-back beats, regional delicacies, and local producers. The band Rat Bat Blue – Acoustic Four will provide the perfect musical atmosphere.
- At the market day at the Mountain Farming Museum on October 15th, local producers will showcase their regional specialties and handmade products. The program is rounded out by live music, ensuring a cozy autumn afternoon.
- On October 16th, the Kultureck invites you to a special theater evening featuring the comedy “The last of the fiery lovers.” Sharp dialogue, subtle humor, and a touch of human tragedy promise top-notch entertainment.
- On October 17th, experience an educational cooking class at Mount Med Resort that takes you on a culinary health journey and shows how simple healthy cooking can be. Together, you’ll prepare various dishes and then enjoy tasting them.
Autumn time = hiking time
Fall is a particularly beautiful time for hiking in the mountains: crisp air, sweeping views, and the vibrant colors of nature make every hike a memorable experience.
The Markbachjoch cable car in Niederau offers a comfortable ride to the top—it operates through October 18th, 2026, and is included in the Wildschönau Premium Card. The hiking bus to the Schönangeralm, a popular starting point for hikes, is also included in the card and runs through October 18th.
Until October 10th, 2026, guided hikes also invite you to explore together. Many huts and mountain inns are open in the fall as well and look forward to welcoming hiking enthusiasts.
