The 1st Museum of Wood in Auffach gives a fascinating insight into the history of wood carving and the timber industry in the region. Curiosities can be seen and of course purchased. There’s a woodworm farm, a wooden bike, wooden underwear to name but a few.
Every Thursday is a craft fare in the Z’Bach Farming Museum in Oberau. Children can make their own honey candles, or bake their own bread. Entrance is free with the Wildschönau Card. Our Dragon Club pays the museum a visit every week.
In the Silver mine in Thierbach families crawl deep underground through the old tunnel system tot he fairytale grotto where silver and copper were mined centuries ago. The entrance is also free with the Wildschönau Card.
On the Holz Alm on top of the Markbachjoch in Niederau families can learn all about the cheese making art. The delicious cheeses can be tasted and of course purchased. Fresh buttermilk and delicious snacks are served on the lovely terrace with a playground nearby. The guided tour costs € 1.50 for children and € 3 for adults.
The walk through the woods to the alm is suitable for children.
