Pleasure hikes Wildschönau
Four tours that taste great: our Wildschönau gourmet hikes combine regional culinary experiences and gentle hikes with beautiful scenery and even more space for experiences in between. Our distinctive high valley, the sweeping views, and the play of colors can be experienced on a gourmet hike, as if nature had arranged them on a fine plate. This does not require countless meters of elevation gain or long walking times.
With breathtaking views, a sunrise, or hiking through fragrant alpine meadows, you can already imagine the taste of Wildschönau cuisine.
Schatzberg round hiking trail # 1
Simply wow – sometimes there are almost no words to describe something that is so impressive. That's exactly what this priceless moment of pleasure is – a spectacular 360° panoramic view: from the Zillertal to the Berchtesgaden Alps, from the Großglockner to the Wilder Kaiser and everything in between. Simply breathtaking. What's more, it's easy to reach with the Schatzbergbahn cable car from Auffach, via a circular trail with an elevation gain of only 160 meters, making it absolutely family-friendly and offering impressions that will be unforgettable for you.
A little tip: the circular hike can be extended to a summit hike to the Gern or Joel.
Genuss-Runde SchatzbergTips for refreshment
Plan a stop at the Schatzbergalm or Gipfö Hit.
Both mountain huts offer regional delicacies made with products that come partly from their own farms.

Alpine pasture tour over the Rosskopf
There are moments of pure happiness! Standing in the middle of an alpine pasture, closing your eyes and breathing deeply in and out. Now you can almost smell it. The scent of the alpine pastures, the aroma of these alpine meadows around the Holzalm, the Roßkopf and the Norderbergeralm is what makes the delicacies on the alpine pastures so special. They taste so delicious because they contain all the aroma of the fragrant meadows and herbs! Our cows provide the alpine milk—we provide the cheese.
The gentle grassy mountains, the Rosskopf, and the idyllic meadows around the Halsgatterl are a feast for the eyes, especially in the morning and evening light.
Tips for refreshment
The Holzalm offers fantastic milk and cheese products that you shouldn't miss out on. You can also buy delicious snacks for your backpack and enjoy them in the meadow along the way.
Holzalm tip: open until October 4, 2025. From mid-June to early September, there are guided tours of the cheese dairy twice a week.
The Norderbergalm is another culinary tip before you return to the Markbachjochbahn, offering fantastic views and culinary delights.
Culinary tip Norderbergalm - Homemade Schlutzkrapfen with brown butter & Parmesan (open until October 19, 2025)
Koglweg Thierbach family trail
Thierbach makes the dream of an idyllic church village in the Wildschönau come true. Our smallest village, also the highest village in the Kitzbühel Alps, with traditional farms, a church, and lots of character—small and charming, quiet—a village to come home to. It is also the starting point for your circular hike, with the Gratlspitz panorama in the background, leading out of the village and into the forest. Special moments of enjoyment include the places of power and tranquility, the energy tree, and, for the little ones, the forest playground. Slowing down, finding peace, and recharging your batteries for young and old alike are as common here as powdered sugar on pastries. Speaking of pastries...
Genuss-Runde KoglwegTips for refreshment
At Sollererwirt and Gasthof Gradlspitz in the village, you can treat yourself to special culinary delights, whether sweet treats with powdered sugar or traditional Tyrolean cuisine. Both restaurants are deeply rooted in the Wildschönau region and their homeland and look back on a long history here.
Culinary tip at Sollererwirt - “Speckbacher-Pfandl” fried pork medallions on ham cream spaetzle
garnished with crispy bacon - in the original Speckbacherstube! (open until June 12, 2025)
Culinary tip: Gasthof Gradlspitz – Speckbrot (bacon bread) – chef Josef smokes his own bacon. (open until October 1, 2025)
Mühltal round hiking trail
Sometimes that's exactly what you need: a leisurely stroll around the village, not too far, not too steep – just walking, relaxing, and taking it all in. You'll notice the traditional architectural style. And if you pause for a moment, you can feel the character of the farms. Our farms have long traditions, telling countless family stories of our village and also how nature shapes our lives here. Wooden construction, small windows, firewood in front of the door, flowers and farm gardens – none of this is coincidence, but rather craftsmanship and love for the region.
The small hamlet of Mühltal belongs to Oberau and in summer is the “gateway to the Kundl gorge,” one of the most beautiful natural gorges in Austria. The Kundler Klamm can be reached from Mühltal either on foot or comfortably by slow train. Along the rustic farms of Ebertsleith is the Path of Trust.
Tips for refreshment
Culinary tip: Waidmannsruh snack bar – right at the entrance to the Kundler Klamm gorge.
If you love pastries, you should definitely try the homemade Kaiserschmarren.
Open until November 1, 2025.
Culinary tip: Hotel Restaurant Schweizerhof –
If you like hearty, substantial food, you should try the steak toast “à la Andrea.”
(Open until October 12, 2025)
Music lovers can look forward to the weekly summer concert by the BMK Mühltal
